Sheriff Gusman’s quiet strong
leadership during and after
Katrina won him the universal
admiration of Louisiana law
enforcement officials.
   
Sheriff Gusman is a firm believer
that inmates should work when possible. Inmates donated 24,750 hours of labor for community service last year.
   
Post Katrina the Sheriff’s office
is undertaking massive expansion
and renovation of the correctional
facility to make parish prison more secure and New Orleans safer.
   
This year Sheriff Gusman’s
annual Thanksgiving dinner served about 2,000 community members. Seniors all over the city look forward to the event.
